Evelyn,
This MD is ignorant of the whole point of solids as defined by WHO/UNICEF,
the AAP, etc. Solids introduced after 6 months of exclusive breastfeeding are
called Complementary Feeds". They are to complement continued breastfeeding,
not arbitrarily replace it. The change should be gradual over months. Since
human milk has rapid digestibility ( like "clear liquids" classification
pre-surgery, for example) it would seem the faith that more food replacing it will
increase gut transit is misplaced. Fruit juices especially may lead to more
gas, not necessarily more stooling. Water would probably be better than juices
for a number of reasons. Craniosacral work can also help with gut function
via the Vagus nerve.
Just my quick thoughts,
Peace,
Judy
