My concern here is that there is no ONE set of instructions that is right in
every set of circumstances. I am wary of "rules."
What we have to offer as experts is a knowledge base which allows us to
tailor our advice to the individual mother and baby.
Just as there is a place for Finish the First Breast First, there may also
be a time when "Switch Nursing" makes sense.
In fact, the foremilk-hindmilk thing was similarly treated as an across the
board "fact" and it created a lot of confusion which we still have to try to
mitigate. How many of us have heard a mother say "I'm afraid I don't have
enough hindmilk?" Or, "I'm worried he's getting too much foremilk?"
