Interesting angle on the situation. The report on the website 'The Smoking
Gun' makes no mention of whether the police responded to the original call,
which was made by the woman herself, to report she was being assaulted by
her partner. I'm not defending being 'extremely intoxicated ' while caring
for children, not by a long shot. Just interesting to see what is
newsworthy about this situation. Young mother getting kneed in the face by
the father of her baby is not headline-worthy, ho-hum, happens all the time,
all in a day's work. He is even listed as a witness to her crime in the
court document about the case. The report mentions that the mother was on
some prescription medication, and it seems this could be the cause of her
intoxication, as alcohol and illegal drugs are not mentioned anywhere.
I wonder whether they would have found a safe place for the mother and the
baby both, if the mother had not been visibly intoxicated. I wonder whether
the prescribing clinician treating the mother was aware that she was
breastfeeding while on it, and what advice she had been given. I even
wonder whether the partner was taken into custody at all, as the story in
this version leaves it open to question.
All in all, a really sad story :-(
