Dear Friends:
The latest woman I worked with and I got into a giggle fit about the silly
things that she was told in the hospital with this new baby. Here is her
list:
1) Offer second side to drunken, deeply-sleeping baby
2) Jam his face to the breast. "Smash it on."
3) Counting minutes.
4) The number of hours it is "safe" to go without breastfeeding a newborn:
"2", "3". #4. #6???
5) Worry about weight loss when she'd been given IVs before delivery and the
baby was acting fine.
6) Pushing on the back of his head to make him eat.
She "knew" deep in her gut that what she was being told was not helpful, but
did it anyway because she was surrounded by the "experts" and was already
scared of hospitals, due to previous experiences.
Fortunately. she got help when her baby was 3 weeks old.
