I have one of these... isn't as bumpy as that picture, though. I breastfed
uneventfully.

I've had mine for as long as I can remember. Brian Palmer says that they
develop over time, but I had a baby who appeared to have one, and it was my
assessment that mom's chronic sore nipples were caused by rubbing on this,
something that I could not correct in any way for her.
