Dear Collegues,
I have a question about nipple crimping. Baby has wide open gaped mouth,
self attaches, has a good amount of the breast in his mouth. Strong suckle
with swallows noted on auscultation. Bilateral lips are flared. He comes off and
the edges of the nipple are slightly crimped.
I have seen when they don't have enough of the breast and that the nipple is
crimped. Or a short tongue, but this baby can stretch that tongue out over
his lips well.
What am I missing. I always ask mom what she is feeling. If she tells me
pinching then we break the seal and try again.
As always your help his much appreciated. Please feel free to email me
privately or at work.
Yours in lactation,
Theresa Klein, RN, IBCLC, RLC
