Hello!
And I would give pain medicine (according to pediatrician's order) in
Newborn Nursery to any baby who seems to be in pain. Usually this happens if
the newborn has an infection or is having bruises from vacuum extraction or
other birth trauma or having a lot of trouble with breathing. We use mostly
acetaminophen or it's iv-version. Some babies need pain medicine so that
their mothers can touch them or hold them skin to skin, not to mention
breastfeeding.
Warmly,
Pia Ruohotie, RN and breastfeeding counsellor
