I just did that last week, voicing my concerns, and got a reply today...
The Medela-lc explained to me that indeed they will become non-compliant as
far as bottles and teats are concerned.
I do agree with Rachel, though, that the whole wording of their brochures is
worrisome; it's not just the bottles.
I'm pondering as to how to react to that part of the issue.
I'm having a hard time keeping track of who owns who.
Is Ameda part of Evenflo? Avent is part of Philips, that I know for sure.
How, for heaven's sake, can all of us keep posted on all of it?
How can I possibly look after moms and earn some money in my own practice,
be a part of policymaking on a regional and national level, train collegues
and HCP's, contribute to the volunteer organisation I come from (... and
also look after my own family!!), when I have to enter these commercial
battles all the time...? :-( How, in short, to direct your energy most
effectively? I know for sure that I could edit the brochures from Medela and
improve them by making them breastfeeding friendly/friendlier, and I far
prefer that to 'improving' the message ABM-companies want to send out, but
how to find time to do all that in order to feel happy about selling those
products? It's simply a fact: many moms need pumps to get their bf
relationship with their baby going (smoothly). I simply want to rent and
sell good products when they are necessary (and only then!!). My... what a
complex matter to deal with...
Warmly,
Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
