I was speaking with a  young mother of a 6-7 week old whose doctor told her
that she wasn't making enough milk for her infant because she was anemic. 
This is something that I had never heard before so I am asking if anyone has
ever heard of this.  I generally do not trust dr's opinions on breastfeeding
(esp. male dr's) as they tend to have very little good info to help their
patients.  This mother is now giving her baby formula, although she is
leaking milk from one breast.  I don't know how determined the mother is to
continue breastfeeding and I encouraged her as much as I dared (trying not
to be pushy at all - it is her baby!), but it is so discouraging that the
first response from so many MD's always seems to be to give formula.    My
guess is that the supply issue (if it truly existed ) has more to do with
misinformation and incorrect use of a nipple shield, but I am curious as to
a link with anemia.
