I understand Dr Leeper's point about scales reassuring moms, but I wish we could get moms to trust/look at the baby (output, chubby cheeks, behavior, etc.) and stop depending on technology (clocks, scales, pumps etc). We are too dependent on technology :-( Americans (especially) need to learn to trust the baby.
Two examples: I asked my grandson how my newest great grandson was doing via email ( too many miles away :-( His reply after baby's 2 wk vss:
"7 lb, 7 oz (6 lb 12 oz @ birth, 6 lb 4 oz @dischg) Just wanted to let you know that breastfeeding is working:-)"
same great grandson needed a check up on his way through NJ. I saw him at Christmas (4 1/2 weeks) and this was Jan 5. I looked at him and saw his chubby cheeks (filling out), different from just 10 days before (now 6 weeks). But both parents focused on the scale I had brought in and weren't thrilled until I weighed him :-(
My point being that each time they focused on weight, not baby's appearance or behaviors :-(
