I, too, have asked many questions about tongue-tie. I struggle with
the incidence I see. But I know they are there and I know how much
releasing TT can save the breastfeeding relationship. I feel like I am
having to make a hard sell sometimes. Like Kristen P I like parents to
make an informed choice. I have had some decide they would rather give
up breastfeeding than make in incision in their baby's mouth.

Two of my three children were born with TT - I wonder if my first had
been born with TT if I would be doing what I am doing now? My third
baby had me weeping in the corner thinking of what I could do as a
career  change and who I would hang out with if I wasn't nursing my
baby. My husband came to my rescue with "What would you tell one of
your clients?" This was after a frenotomy - probably should have had
it redone - he still has a pull down the center of his tongue and I
still get compressed nipples when he nurses - he is 3 1/2.

I just returned from visiting my younger sister who just gave birth to
her 4th baby - he was hospitalized with a bilirubin count of 21+, her
nipples are sore, they have thrush, she has plugged ducts and called
me today - she is fighting off mastitis. I helped with with latching
which helped to an extent but this baby has a high bubble palate and a
tight tongue. She has an appointment with an ENT this Wednesday - I
would call this a type 3. I hope the ENT does a good job. I am not
there - I wrote a thorough report.

I also noticed her oldest son has a slight lisp and she says the
problems she is having are mimicking her feedings with him.

I feel I have become pretty good at assessing TT - but it drives me
crazy when I see so many.
I have asked why we have so many - why they have not disappeared - the
simple obvious answer is that we have always fixed them.

I am glad to have a community of knowledgeable people -I continue to
learn from you all.
