I'm sure you've seen it Renee, but this is the letter Nestle are sending
back to people who have complained. I felt sure some people in here
would be interested in their approach... I just love "in line with Code
intent".

In response to your emails and comments, we felt it was important to
clarify the situation.

Nestle was approached by a health care professional association in BC to
provide information on infant feeding to health care professionals, not
directly to moms. The intention of the session was to provide
science-based education, full endorsed and approved in advance by this
specific professional association and others. This educational event is
in line with Code intent. Similarly, Oweenie Lee practices within her
Dietitian Code and this has been confirmed by both the College of
Dietitians of British Columbia and Dietitians of Canada.

In an effort to avoid placing those who have requested this information
in any difficult situations, we have made arrangements to provide the
requested information in an alternate manner.

While we respect your right to your opinion, it is unfortunate that you
have been provided with information that does not reflect our practices.
Nestle cares deeply about the health of mothers and babies and health
care professionals with whom we have relationships will attest to this.
We have been recognized as Best In Class from numerous auditing
authorities for our implementation of the WHO Code in developing
countries, and in those countries that have not adopted the WHO Code, we
operate under the highest ethical standards and within the national laws
and legislation.

Sincerely,
Catherine O'Brien
