Dear Friends:
I am sure that the discussion about the different things to do to a
baby once it is born is endless. Every culture has its rituals.
To bring this back to breastfeeding, I am sure too, that everyone will
agree that whatever is done can wait until the baby has breastfeed
enough to go into deep, deep sleep....somewhere around 2 hours after
birth. (Sepkoski. Nissen.)
Until the baby passes out, it should be skin to skin with its mother.
Once it passes out, then the tribe can have its way with the
newborn....as long as the mother assents.
warmly,
Nikki Lee
