Regression may be due to scar tissue tightening. Dr. Murphy talks about
pressing into the area, and how sometimes it just "pops" open again. I've
seen this locally with my ped who does clipping as well-- he commented on it
the first time he tried pushing and felt the pop. Another ENT recommended
the mom press into the area once or twice a day and pop it open until he
healed.

Here's the explanation for the pop: When a tongue-tie is clipped, the wound
opens into a diamond shape. Then new tissue must form in the raw area. This
"scarred" area may pull back together as it heals and tighten up. It's not
"growing back together" but pulling inward. The idea is to keep this area
open until the new skin grows over completely.

Dr. Murphy believes that breastfeeding post-frenotomy (he won't clip young
bottle-fed babies) helps keep this area open. But, sometimes the area still
needs to be opened again in this manner.
