A question came up in our craniofacial center, today, in regards to a cleft
palate baby receiving 100 mls of breastmilk, daily. He mostly receives formula
feeds - as mom is struggling with low milk supply. This mom is under quite a bit
of stress, and does not want to go forward with the effort of increasing her
milk supply.
The question asked to me is "how beneficial is this amount of breastmilk?" In
other words, is it really worthwhile? I've always held firm to the fact that any
amount is good - especially for our babies who are being supplemented.
However, does anyone know of a study or publication which addresses partial
breastfeeds?
Thanks!
Becky Lyons, LD, IBCLC
