Hello
Gay Palmer is busy finishing off the third edition of 'The Politics of
Breastfeeding' and she has just asked some questions. I feel I should know
the answers, and I can guess on some of them, but I would feel happier if I
would have my guesses confirmed. Gay would be grateful for information from
you!
I know that most of this information will have been posted on Lactnet, and I
apologise, but I have been very busy and also, when information is about
someone else's country, you just tend not to remember it as well! I also
have a feeling that sometimes there is variation for some of these.
Please do post privately so as not to clog the list.
Many thanks in advance if you can help with any of these questions.
Has ILCA (or anyone) done any objective research on efficacy and safety of
pumps?
Does JHL review and test a pump before accepting an ad?
Are there any safety/efficacy standards for pumps in the US?
Do they come under FSA?
Is it still true that US based health insurance companies do not reimburse
mothers for fee for LC's time? Do they reimburse for pump hire?
Is there still a financial motive for LC's to rent out pumps?
Could she charge the same fee for teaching a woman to hand express?
Is teaching all mothers hand expression a requirement for Baby Friendly
accreditation in the USA as it is in the UK?
Again, thanks if you can help.
If you are going to VELB in Vienna, perhaps I will see you there.
