Karleen - thanks for the reminder that when looking at research, the integrity of the researcher and who sponsors the research is very important in reviewing. I am currently taking a research class and our professor has pointed this out. Great opportunity to state in my nursing class (I'm working on my master's) the fact that scientific research is always based on some pre-suppositions and assumptions - and one of them is that the researcher is honest. How many people actually look at the presenter's conflict of interest statements? And do researchers have biases they may not even be aware of? That goes both directions.

Hi Pam,
I don't have a ref but just wanted to note that the author of the paper cited was exposed a few years ago as having fabricated research results over the long term. No one really knows which research is legit and which not.
