I have been contacted by a desperate mother who I have helped with
breastfeeding. Her question is breast related, but is not about breastfeeding,
so please forgive me as this is off topic. I have her permission to post about
this situation. She is hoping that someone on this list might be able to provide
her with some information or direction.
Her 17 year old daughter developed a painful, small, bruised looking area on
her breast almost 3 weeks ago. She is not an athlete, nor had she had any
type of trauma to the breast. She rated her pain as an 8 or 9 and her mother
took her to the emergency room where she was told she had an infection and
was given an antibiotic. Daily, since then, the bruise has grown larger and
more discolored. At this point the whole breast is bluish grey and the
discoloration is spreading to the center of her chest. The pain has persisted.
She has seen an OB-GYN, an internist, has had a sonogram which showed
nothing and today saw a breast surgeon. She has been told that this is a non
traumatic bruise and if it does not get better she will be referred to a
hematologist. The breast surgeon told her it was not inflammatory breast
cancer. Evidently everyone who has seen her has said they have never seen
anything like this before.
If anyone has seen something like this, or has any thoughts about it, please
reply to me at [log in to unmask] This mother is hoping that since we
collectively have seen many, many breasts that someone might have some
information that can help her.
Thank you,
