i wonder if instead of encouraging "self-medication" with OTC probiotics.. it might be more helpful to encourage mothers who are concerned that their gut is or may be compromised by antibiotic use to explore alternative therapies that treat the constitution? i have a nutritionist friend who says that OTC probiotics can be ineffective and even counterproductive sometimes...
perhaps a "some mothers find that alternative therapies such as acupuncture, nutritional therapy, homeopathy, chinese medicine etc have been effective at re-balancing the gut and treating any constitutional weakness contributing to persistent thrush, mastitis, plugged ducts etc?..."
regards
georgia
