Some hospitals are referral centers for high risk pregnancies, fetal malformations, etc. - so 30% going to the NICU is high, but could be very appropriate.? Most hospitals try to keep babies OUT of the NICU - infants of diabetic mothers have bedside glucoses done in the mother's room and late preterm infants stay with Mom unless they have a problem.? Please do not condemn ALL hospitals.??I believe all are trying to do what they feel is best for their patients.? They may not be aware of what the currently recommended best practices are - and we need to teach them.
