I have worked with several motrhers with retained placents.  When the D
and C was done, all of them went into full production mode withing two
days.   One woman had an obstetrician who refused to believe she had
retained placents despite a 4x8 cm "shadow' in her uterus on ultra
sound.   She never hemprrhaged but continued to blled for three months
after the birth.  She gradually produced more milk and by the time she
stopped bleeding she had a full milk supply.
