There are a number of ENT's and oral surgeons in our community who will do
frenotomys. They are willing to do them for babies on MediCal with a referral
from a Doctor/FNP.
I work for Public Health in a Breastfeeding Support Center as a PHN, IBCLC. I
would like to negotiate with the Public Health Medical Director to have me
refer babies covered by standardized procedures which would spell out what
was being referred ie visual exam done with the following findings....etc. That
way we could avoid the Peds,MDs who are upset with us referring back to
them as they don't believe a tight frenulum has anything to do with
breastfeeding or any other issues for the child. And of course, the referral
would be more timely.
I am wondering if anyone is using this method of referral, and if so, if you
would share the standardized procedures you work under. I'd love to have the
wheel already invented!
Thanks for any help or input you might have.
