I'd like to add two comments to this topic. One is that while these studies
suggest that atopy cannont be well "prevented" by avoiding milk proteins and
the like, that doesn't mean that it shouldn't be "treated" by mom finding and
avoiding foods that the nursling is sensitive to (or switching formulas). I've
found that some doctors are saying that the research proves that food
avoidance doesn't work for babies who are actively reacting and that's not
what it says.
The other thing is that any findings in studies simply comparing breastfeeding
to formula feeding, in terms of atopy, are forgetting that nursing moms can be
passing plenty of dairy protein etc. in their milk. This fact weakens the atopy
findings so as not to be significant.
