Breast pumps are not covered by the Code. Breast pumps do not appear in
the list of products covered under the scope of the Code. Breast pumps
are not mentioned anywhere in the Code or in the subsequent
resolutions. While many of us do not appreciate how some pumps are
marketed they are not covered by the Code. We know that many mothers
require the use of a pump and that their milk is provided to their baby
with a bottle and artificial nipple. In this troubled economic time,
many mothers have no choice in terms of having to work. They may be
fortunate to have a job when their spouse has just been laid off. The
Code refers to the marketing of products covered within its scope.
Companies can sell these products but cannot market them in ways that
idealize their use or compromise breastfeeding. The Code does not cover
breast pumps.
