Pus consists of leukocytes (white blood cells) and debris of other dead cells. Although it sounds quite distasteful (more so to some mothers than others) there isn't any harm that I am aware of to consuming it.
I hear a similar concern from mothers when their nipples are cracked and bleeding. It's an understandable question. If the mother doesn't care to breastfeed from that breast, she will either need to?hand express or pump in order to perserve her milk supply (while seeking appropriate management of the mastitis of course).. :)
