Me again,
My session today with this baby was same as everyday. Moments of
hopefullness, replaced by playing with the nipple. I have received some
helpful suggestions, tho. One suggested I put super glue in the second hole
of the adiri bottle, so that it would flow slower. I just don't feel good
about that one, so am not going to do it. I didnt feel the need to have mom
leave the house, as baby never saw her or heard her. I woke her up and took
her from her crib, changed diaper, and started the bottle attempts.....I
wanted mom to be comfortable with what I was doing and be able to watch from
afar as needed.
TODAY, tho, dad was present for the first time, and would come over to
me and touch his baby every time she would start to fuss. He would always
look at me when she would start to fuss, so I know he resisted actually
coming over and touching her many times. He works as an "energy healer",
tho I'm not quite sure what that is, I was having to maintain my own
calmness, which usually comes very naturally when I am around babies.
ANYWHO......... I say all that for 2 reasons. One, obviously, that is
part of the reason they have not been successful with their attempts to
bottlefeed, as he stops any progress as soon as she begins to fuss.
Secondly, tho unrelated to what all I have shared thus far, I am consulting
with an OT (occupational therapist) as baby gags so easily. EVEN today when
mom nursed baby while mom was sitting up, baby gagged and choked. She
ALWAYs nurses baby laying down, for this reason.
I think baby needs some tongue assessment/exercises that is beyond by
scope. Baby did not like the shield at the breast either. So, I kinda feel
baby has other issues and that is why she is being so stubborn to take a
bottle.
