Don't have any clinical reasons for you. However, I do have a baby reason:
Baby is demanding it! In my mommy group I have about 7 4-6 month olds. One
6 month old could care less about solids - he isn't interested in mom's
dinner plate or what she is putting in her mouth and when offered a spoonful
of something either turns his head or looks at the person offerning like
they are nuts. :-) A 4.5 month old is now pitching a hissy fit when her
mom eats and doesn't give her a taste. I mean she gets MAD. Mom showed us
in group today - it was hecka funny. :-) So mom went ahead and gave her a
taste of her yogurt and baby was in 7th heaven. :-)
My moms all want to know when to start - I tell them to watch the baby.
Please wait at least until 4 months - longer if at all possible. But, if
your 4 month old is demanding to taste your food and drink your glass of
water then it is possible that baby is ready a little sooner than the books
say. If your 7 month old could care less, then that is fine too - because
apparently his body is saying it is too soon - so go with it. Like many
other things, "Watch the baby" tends to fit pretty well here too. At least
it does in my opinion. :-)
Warmly,
