I have learned from my daughter, an ecologist who has studied botany  
and plant biology, that there are many plants that seem to be  
unrelated but are actually in the same family, such as mangoes and  
poison ivy.

I have also heard it said that an aversion to a food may be indication  
of a mild allergy, that from my SIL whose son has many allergies and  
they don't push too hard when he doesn't want to eat something, even  
if he's not officially allergic to it.
