Statistics are interesting. I understand that if the sampling is done
carefully, a surprisingly small sample can be representative of a large
population. I understand that political polling in the US uses a sample of
around 1600 to produce a remarkable accurate picture of the behaviour of
voters there. The only way to know if this small sample was representative
would be to ask a statistician to read the CDCs account of the sampling
strategy.
