Well --- that was quick. I received a UNICEF document on childhood injuries that will put
this in perspective ----
The one million deaths from not breastfeeding is (I believe) in only the first year of life.
The number of deaths for children AND adolescents --- a much larger age range is 875,000.
Out of those deaths, the most prominent causes of death were road crashes and drowning.
Out of those deaths, only 4% or 34,000 were from violence. Gun deaths would be classified
as deaths from violence.
So, the number of deaths from violence among children AND adolescents is 3.4% of the
number of deaths among only infants from not breastfeeding. And guns is only a fraction of
all deaths from violence.
Soooooo, I guess that means that the number of deaths from bottles far outweighs the
number of deaths from guns.
Best, Susan Burger
