Hi All of you who are suffering from eczema!
Let me assure you that coming from someone who has it (me) and I was fed
formula.
My daughter first born was breastfed 95% of the time then I went back to
work and I didn't have support and breastfeeding took a dive around 5 or 6
months, no eczema
Second child...Exclusively breastfed until almost 3 yrs he has eczema fairly
bad. I feel no guilt because I did nurse him for so long. Their are lots of
factors that go into play with this. I am grateful he does not have asthma as
they tend to go hand in hand....Probably, could get it more under control if I
took him to a nutritionist, just haven't done that yet. It tends to flair at
certain times of the year and being around grass makes it worse.. Its summer
here and he's around grass.
YOu can help the child with eczema by the following
1. Don't bath your child, use a shower
2. Use unscented soaps like purpose or aveeno
3. Don't use fancy scented lotion, use aveeno or Eucerine
4. Wear cotton
5. Watch what you wash their clothes in regarding harsh detergents.
6. Avoid as much as possible the triggers ie. grass, dog hair, cat hair and
other known allergens.
7. I personnally would not use Lanolin on their skin as they may be allergic to
the wool. I am.
8. See a reputable dermatologist, to use something topical to help with the
flair ups. Once you get those under control, you won't need the steroid
creams as much. I always dilute it with Aveeno or something mild like that.
Please e-mail me off list for any other questions about asthma or eczema. I
have lots of experience with this in kids and adults. Of course if the MD's
respond to your e-mails, great!
Robin
