The babies I observe that are breastfed, or receive expressed
breastmilk, will have more daily stools with breastmilk and fewer
stools with formula. Bilirubin is excreted in the stools, so the more
stools the better. I understood the goal was to increase the quantity
of breastmilk.

Formula DOES decrease bilirubin faster for two reasons - you are usually
giving more of it and elemental formulas drop it faster than regular
formulas.
