Susan in Berkley makes some good points about the drawbacks and
benefits of having a wt scale at new mom's groups.
Having done a new moms group for several years without a scale, then
doing a *Breastfeeding mom's group* with a scale for several years,
seems to me that the benefits outweigh the negatives ....1) moms where
I live want to regularly, and maybe too often, weigh their babies, and
they will find a way to do so, ...for some moms that is what gets them
to group regularly where they get so many other benefits, they figure
this out ... 2) when a baby does not gain, other more experienced moms
in group usually know just what to say, or you can guide them to what
they need to say to a worried mom, this may head off an un-needed
panic later in a ped office, or nip a real problem in the bud, most
often the newer mom just needs and gets lots of comforting
reassurance, ... 3) moms learn how to correctly weigh a baby.
