Our hospital policy uses the guidelines from the HMBANA publication (Best
Practice for Expressing, Storing, and Handling Human Milk, 2nd edition, 2006)
for storage of expressed milk ( 4-6 hours at room temp; refrigerated for up to
8 days, up to 12 months in a freezer) A coworker has attended a recent
conference where they stated the guidelines for storage as 4 hours at room
temp, 72 hours in the refrigerator and 3 months in a freezer.
Has HMBANA changed their guidelines?
Thank you.
Debbie
