Much to the surprise of others in my office, I went to a Catholic high
school to present to a mixed groups of boys and girls about breastfeeding -
and started with the Righard "Delivery Self-attachment" video (Geddes
Productions)!

Many thought the teachers, (some were nuns) would have had a difficult time
with this - but they didn't!

My reasoning was that the word "breast" would have totally obscured my
message - the boys and girls would be waiting with bated breath to see if
they would get a "glimpse" of a breast at some time in my talk, that they
would not hear much of what I said.

Once I showed them breasts and the NORMAL behavior of babies (and the
ABNORMAL behavior of babies who are affected by maternal-child separation),
then we got into what other "normal" things do babies need. Most KNEW the
answers, especially when prompted by asking what was the environment that
baby was in PRIOR to delivery.

We then went on to talk how to nourish and care for newborns - by the end of
the talk (which was mostly THEM telling ME what we needed to discuss/share),
I had a couple of twin girls asking if they would be able to nurse each
others' baby!

By the way, I highly recommend people read books about teaching by Jane
Vella ("Learning to listen, Learning to Teach" and various others you can
find in Amazon and other book sellers). Her concepts have been adopted by
WIC to re-create their educational interventions with excellent results -
and when I use them (which isn't always, as it's hard to teach an old dog
new tricks), I receive great positive evaluations thanking me for the
usefulness of the training.

By doing a Google Search, I found a summary of her concepts (although they
are applied for a religious topic, but you can expand to whatever you are
teaching) can be found in: http://www.luthersem.edu/mhess/vella.pdf
