Our hospital does bili check am of discharge. Then ped decides if baby
needs repeat bili in 1-2 days depending on a scale we have from AAP
(American Academy of Pediatrics) . AAP also recommends all babies be seen
at their medical home between 48-72 hours post delivery and we strive for
this. Just doing a bili check doesn't tell you anything about the whole
rest of the baby! Someone needs to have their eyes and ears checking the
real thing (and mom).
PS I believe it is unethical and certainly suit worthy to only do "bili
checks" on BF babies! Pat in SNJ
