Dear friends,
I buy Gentian Violet in powder form, which is not a solution of any kind. Then I use as little as possible alcohol to make a homogeneous mixture whitout lumps and then make a 1% solution in water. Gentian Violet content is about .5% as is alcohol.
GV can be bought and sold without prescription in The Netherlands.
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands.

On Jack Newman's site it talks about aqueous solution GV - I can't find that
in my area - and I believe his is also a .5%. Here we have a 1% in alcohol
- very strong. I have my recommendations for dealing with this as I have
had more than one mom follow Jack's handout directions (which are fine for
the aqueous solution but not for what we have here) and end up with a baby
with ulcers in their mouth as a result. I would like to know what others
are dealing with and what your recommendations are.
Thank you!
