Ingrid writes: "As a member of ILCA/CLCA, you are insured."
This is not really true. Members of USLCA (who are, of course, also ILCA
members) do have the opportunity to purchase, on their own,
wonderfully-priced professional liabiity insurance for the IBCLC ($US109
annually). BUT -- it is up to the member to purchase the insurance (learn
more at www.uslaconloine.org).
AND, not every IBCLC needs this insurance. As a private practitioner, I
need to buy it. Many of you who are working in a hospital setting will find
that your liability insurance is one of our benefits of employment -- but I
caution everyone to (a) find out, and (b) be sure it covers you for your
IBCLC work in addition to your RN work, if you are in fact an RN.
I do not believe CLCA (the national affilaite of ILCA based in Canada) is
offering insurance -- but I do think it is something they would be
interested to know that you, as a member, would be willing to buy!
