Karyn-Grace,
One of the little voices I hear in my head, during a hard situation like
this, is that of my nursing instructor Linda Kelly Brown. She would say,
"Hey, I'm willing to work as hard at this as you are."
Now, I would agree that this mom is probably having some emotional issues
here - PPD? PTSD after a difficult hospital stay and fearing for her or her
baby's life?? -- but I"d agree that it's a good idea to ask her what she
would like to do.
Then help her do it.
 Compassionate care like that sometimes helps mothers nurse their second
babies longer. After all, this baby has already gotten more breastmilk than
some babies get in their entire lives.
I wish you much luck with your own feelings as well as hers!
