Out hospital is holding a talent show in about a week and I thought it might
be a great opportunity to spotlight breastfeeding. In the past we have put
together a little song and dance about "Why Nurse Your Babe" done to the
music from the old "YMCA" song. One time we did a Dr. Suess thing on "You
can nurse on a plane, you can nurse etc." We have had a person dressed like
a cow carrying a sign "Make Your Own Milk!" All of these ideas came from
other Lactnet groups and were very much appreciated.
Anyone have new ideas to share? Songs that they have used and just
changed the words?? Ideas for skits? It is all in fun, but at least it
just keeps BF in the focus within our hospital.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
I want to also celebrate that this past week the "formula sales person"
called our director and said she wanted to bring lunch for all the nurses in
our mother/baby dept. to help celebrate Nurse's Week. The director asked
me if this would violate anything since we are now "GIFT" certified. GIFT
is the program promoted by our Louisiana Maternal Child Health Coalition to
help hospitals set up standards that are based on the "10 Steps" but not
quite as rigid. With the help of the GIFT coordinators we were able to come
up with just the "perfect" wording to say NO! I can't remember the exact
wording, but it was something like "a facility cannot remain a breast
feeding friendly and supportive environment and still accept food/gifts for
a select few of its employees from this industry" ! Our directors and
managers are becoming much more supportive and solid in realizing how this
seemingly "harmless" tactic can be so destructive for our staff. It has
been a long road, but starting to be more encouraging!
Yes, I am the LC that is doing "cartwheels" down our hallways!!!
