In response to Marianne Vanderveen:
The idea of branding and registering the name and concept, "Baby Cafe", is to make sure of quality control and *protect* the name and reputation - that it isn't copied in a watered-down way that could damage the concept. Among the criteria is also the need to be sustainable. We wouldn't want anyone to set up another Lactnet and not have the guidelines and rules we value, which make Lactnet unique. There are lots of other names a different breastfeeding drop-in centre could use, without impinging on the rights of the Baby Cafe name. Besides, isn't there a legal issue here, about using a brand name?

**With all due respect... can someone or some organisation really claim two
very normal words (breastfeeding and cafe) and say that you cannot organise
something with the aim of bringing breastfeeding mothers together and make
it a more normal, societal thing to breastfeed, without their 'blessing'...?
..... That an
organisation creates a 'baby cafe' is great, but in other countries, people
may not even know about that. They won't compare the one to the other. I
think in general, the idea is clear: a place where mothers and babies are
welcome to share their experience with breastfeeding.
Warmly,
