13 years ago I had severe breastfeeding difficulties with baby #2. My LC
told me about WIC - I got on it because we needed the help desperately. I
hated the classes because I already knew what they were teaching and more -
but the vouchers helped feed the family. I became a peer counselor in their
newer PC Program. A couple months later they paid for me (the 1st PC to do
this) to get my CLE through Lactation Institute. I took over the pump
program and worked with the high risk moms. I worked for WIC for 2 yrs then
quit shortly after having my 3rd child so I could spend time with my kids
and also focus on my own growing business.

I have always been poor financially - still am. And I probably never would
have been able to get my CLE on my own due to financial restraints. WIC
provided a stepping stone for me to start my education and finish it up on
my own - I took the IBLCE exam in 2000 and here I am. IBCLC.

I know I may be poor financially but that is about it. :-) Thank you
Kathleen for reminding us about that difference. I know I have made a
difference in the worlds of many and that gives me riches beyond.

Warmly,

Jaye
