Does anyone have experience with Ciliary Neurotrophic Factor?

Does anyone know if Tom Hale is traveling? I haven't had an answer to my
post of 9/27/07 on his medications site.

Arly Helm, MS, IBCLC: More info on RENOIR follows:

Neurotrophic Factors are naturally occurring substances that have been known
to delay the loss of photoreceptor cells (Rods and Cones) during retinal
degeneration. One of these factors, a protein called Ciliary Neurotrophic
Factor (CNTF), is the therapeutic agent being investigated in the RENOIR
studies.
To ensure CNTF gets to the eye, an implant, which releases CNTF, is placed
directly inside the eye. The NT-501 implant is a small package of cells that
is placed inside the eye to allow release of CNTF directly on the retina, a
light sensitive part of the eye. Two forms of CNTF implants will be tested,
one CNTF implant releases a higher dose of CNTF and the other implant
releases a lower dose of CNTF.
Each NT-501 implant consists of a sealed hollow capsule that contains
CNTF-secreting NTC-201 cells. A titanium loop attached to one end is used to
help place and retrieve the implanted capsule. The implant allows CNTF to
come out of the capsule and directly reach the retina and the Rods and
Cones.
