I lurk here but the topic of hand expression is a special interest of mine.
I remember sitting on the side of the bed with a full baby and still very
full breasts. I just thought it made sense that I could milk myself. It
worked on cows and goats. Low and behold it was easy. I have developed a
huge interest in hand expression as I could never, with any pump, even
hospital grade get more than an ounce, but with hand expression could
easily fill an 8oz bottle in 10 minutes. I worked through five babies and
used this method to provide milk for all of them. I thought I was just
odd until I later discovered there was such a thing as hand expression.
My 'technique' as others have stated, is not like that taught but was
obviously successful.
