Dear Laura,
This is purely anecdotal, but I had my second child smack dab in the
middle of spring allergy season, which is a killer for my husband. He
also had a recurring viral infection in one eye, which would come and
go as he kept changing antiviral drops. For the first six weeks
postpartum, I pumped about 6 oz per day. My husband would use a
dropper to irrigate his eyes and then drink the rest of the milk. It
cleared up the eye virus, which has not returned in over three years,
and that spring he had no allergy trouble at all. That second part,
unfortunately, was not a permanent cure :)
Additionally, I was staying with a friend a few months ago when her
daughter had a terrible earache. She looked down at herself and then
at me, and said, "This is when I wish I were still lactating!" When I
reminded her that I *was*, she grabbed a spoon and I harvested a few
doses for her, which she dripped directly into her daughter's ears.
