Dear Lactnetters,
I wholeheartedly agree that we need to move on to other topics on Lactnet,
but I do want to quickly express the fact that the way this discussion has
turned really exemplefied a 'no-win' situation. From following Lactnet...
and please forgive me but for better or worse I cannot remember all the
names of the posters involved... the subject of Ameda advertising was
brought up by someone who felt it could be against the WHO code. Nancy
(and others) pointed out that this was not the case and explained nicely
why. Someone then criticized the content for potential mixed or negative
messages. Nancy then responded with a willingness on behalf of the company
to look closely at this and suggest possible changes.
Why is this now being turned into an attack?? She's now being
accused of seeking free advertisment writing and of seeking publicity for
the company via Lactnet! What?!?? From my view (and I have no financial
interest in this) she did exactly what we've been BEGGING companies to do!
She *listened* and responded to our concerns, and agreed through Ameda to
potential change future advertising to reflect our (the lactation support
community as a whole) concerns! Isn't this the dream response we'd all wish
for from EVERY company that we have concerns about?
While I understand that Lactnet is not a place to solicit business
or advertise and whatnot... Nancy and Ameda did not start this discussion in
any way... rather they only responded to the concerns that were voiced. I
think this deserves praise not condemnation.
Best wishes,
Jeanne
