>I need information about mother to mother support groups, such as LLL in =
other parts of the world, particularly the UK, for a website.<
In the UK, the best initial webpages are this page from the Department of
Health, which links to all four of the voluntary organisations here in the
UK:
http://www.breastfeeding.nhs.uk/en/fe/page.asp?n1=4
the telephone numbers and webpages of each organisation are given -- there
is variable information on the organisation websites. I know that the BfN
have a breastfeeding centre location page on our site.
There are also a myriad of groups, some run by health professionals, some
are peer support groups of all flavours and varieties. There is a website
which aims to track all of these and provide information:
http://www.breastfeedingcommunity.co.uk/index.htm
I am not sure if these provide all of the information you were looking for,
but I think it is probably the best you are going to get. And if you are
wondering about the cost -- I have never, ever heard of a breastfeeding
group which charges!!! If you come across a place that is charging for
social support, let us in the UK know and we will shame them out of the
country. Oh- sorry, I know most on this list don't get humour, so I will
say more seriously, there might be groups which charge for a cup of tea or
something, but I have never heard of one charging for membership (we are
still living and breathing a way of life which believes and relies on health
care which is free at the point of need, although this is sloooowly
eroding).
Hope this is what you were looking for.
