Hello All,
I was wondering if any suggestions could help me with this case. Mom of BF 5
month old baby started noticing green stools around 2 months of age, not
frothy or explosive. This continued until the mom discontinued dairy in her diet
at 4 months of age. Then the green stool stopped.
When I plotted baby's weight for age on the WHO growth chart the baby was
following his curve (just above the 50th%) from 2 days of age until 2 months
of age (when the green stools started concerning mom) Then at 2 months
baby's weight dropped slightly just below the 50% curve. Unfortunately I don't
have a weight for 3 months, but at 4 months (when the mom removed dairy
out of her diet) the baby's weight was now just above the 15% curve. Baby's
weight according to dr's scale 13lbs 15.5 oz. When this mom came to see me
the other day at baby's 5 month weight in. The baby had only gained 0.5oz in
one month. now is 14lbs even. Now the baby is between the 3rd and 15th%
curve.
Mom feeds only on one breast/feed. Feeding minimum 8x/day. Sleeping 10
hours at night, uses a soother only at night, not during the day. But baby
does like to suck thumb ++ during the day. Baby's output is 6+ wet diapers
and at least 1 BM/day. (no longer green). Is only nursing, no solids yet.
When looking at the "whole baby" he appears well, alert & happy and if I didn't
know his weight history I'd guess he was doing extremely well. Initially I was
thinking maybe mom's supply had dropped, but now I'm thinking maybe it's the
opposite over supply? Any suggestions I could give this mom would be
appreciated.
Thanks,
