*When the breastfeeding dyad are ABO incompatible and baby is in need of
phototherapy, what is the
protocol for adequate intake of the infant?*
I will have to defend myself to nursery nurses this week at an in-service.
They have accused me of upsetting moms by having them believe that their
"breastmilk alone is adequate, but when asked to pump can only provide 10-15
mls of breastmilk. The babies end up suffering and are at risk of brain
damage."
I encourage moms to continue breastfeeding and pumping, but always leave the
need for formula supplementing to the doctors and nurses.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.
Cindy
