Holly,
Seems a brainstorm has to happen. One idea is to stay for the first 10 or 15
minutes, and if the couplet are doing OK, leave them to the L&D nurse.
Another idea is to have some sort of sidecar arrangement, where baby can be
placed, becoz otherwise mom has to hold baby, or baby has to be held for
her. Sometimes a foundation or auxillary association will provide some
funds. A couple sidecars could be purchased strictly for recovery rooms.
(Some moms are more mobile after their C/S, others can barely manage). What
about the significant other? Could that person be present and take over
after the first 10-15 supervised by the LC?
Can a few LCs, L&D, and others get together for a brainstorming session.
Hopefully management will set the stage that this is an idea-generating
session and not a gripe session.
